My first offroad build was a clean 2001 Tacoma, which received over 50 modifications and $20,000. My followers were sad to see her go, they touted it as one of the cleanest 1st gens on Instagram! I built this truck by hand in my garage over the course of 1.5 years, and learned so much from it. But perhaps I learned too much, because I decided to sell it for a 2000 4Runner due to it being a better platform for offroading! (subjective!)
When initially doing research for a new build, I fully immersed myself in what Toyota had to offer during the 90s era, and was saddened by the fact that most of the cool options were never available in America, such as the Hilux, diesel Land Cruisers, Hilux Surfs, Land Cruiser Prados, and more. However, I did know that I needed a 4 door vehicle with a good wheelbase, fancy suspension, and plenty of aftermarket support. This eventually led me to purchasing a unicorn of a 4Runner, which I am very happy with. The problem with the Tacoma for me was that it was too small of a cabin, too long of a wheelbase, had older suspension, and had half as many features as the Land Cruiser or 4Runner. My new 4Runner is an absolute unicorn, a one of a kind. It is a 5VZ=FE 2000 Limited 4x4, which only had 99k miles when I bought it! It is also fully loaded and has factory dual lockers (center and rear). I knew immediately that this Toyota would be the perfect platform for something amazing.
